It’s a very hot day. Hilarie and I have to move the laying hens and cattle, and check in with the pigs. Afterwards, I take a walk to see how each of the fields is growing, and explain how I maintain pasture health during the heat of summer. Farming is an art as much as a science or a brute attitude with big machinery, and the decisions I make regarding how the animals are pastured, when to make hay, and when to clip fields are based on experience and judgement more than anything.
