When Hurricane Helene struck, Zubila Shafiq’s husband, Omar Khan, was one of more than 100 people who died in North Carolina amid catastrophic flooding.
Shafiq pieces together what happened to Khan in a video drawn from “Hurricane Helene’s Deadly Warning,” a FRONTLINE/NPR documentary investigating storm preparedness across the U.S. and the impact and recovery from disasters like Helene.

I just can't imagine experiencing something like this. It could happen to any one of us. Even if you live farther from the coast, it could happen to you. We were flooded once , if it weren't for FEMA, AI don't know what we would have done. Many elderly people live alone and gave no family. Adult children are abandoning their parents. I have 4 neighboors now who are elderly, poor and living alone. We spoiled our children too much, did too much for them. My mother died weighing 48 lbs. Her boyfriend was an alcoholic and didn't care about her. She fell and broke her hip and he left her laying in the floor for 5 days. I didn't even recognize her when I made it to the hospital in Texas to see her before she died. The small town she lived in justice system let her boyfriend get away with duo after due because his dad knew someone. Check on your elderly neighboors, frequently. Everyone is going through something we know nothing about. All this hate and division is hurting the elderly the most. We have to stop and think anout how all this hate is impacting our children
Oh well. Thats life
Of course blame someone they can neither confirm or deny.

Trump officials do not care.
These ain’t billionaires.
rip omar.
I am not a religious person, so when I see something like this happen, it breaks my heart to witness innocent people being hunted. If this is an act of God, as some believe, then it seems very cruel, doesn't it? To me, this is just the nature of our planet, which we all have to contend with: storms, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, wildfires, and floods. These events happen all the time around the world.
Life.
If you voted for this administration , don’t waste my time , deal with it.
How does it feel being defunded?
Its sad it took this long for these left wing lunatics to cover real news
Painfull 🙈ðŸ™
The pain survivors going through knowing that your loved ones endured panic and fear in their last moments must be a daily nightmare to cope with those thoughts and feelings. Rest peacefully those who perished and may the living find solace.
