In FRONTLINE’s “The Trouble with Chicken,” correspondent David E. Hoffman investigates how and why the standards and laws around Salmonella have failed to keep up with the increasing danger posed by some strains of the bacteria.The film looks closely at one of the largest Salmonella poultry outbreaks on record, when chicken from Foster Farms sickened more than 600 people over 16 months. Delving into the complex world of food safety, the investigation reveals a seeming contradiction: even though hundreds of people were falling ill, Foster Farms was still meeting the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) standards for Salmonella contamination.

  1. Chickens aren't the problem, human ignorance is.if you cook your food properly, no issues. additionally, if you farm your chickens properly, you create a situation that is beneficial to the environment, not detrimental.

  3. We need to go back to small family farms, the problem comes in when you have hundreds of thousands of chickens in one building, then they are processed by machines and dunked in the same huge vat of slimy water !!!
    Family size production farms don’t have this problem but big business and government has made it impossible for small farms to exist !!!

  4. One more reason to stop eating meat. I used to eat a lot of meat, but now I’ve been vegan for over 5 years. It was one of the best decisions of my life. This industry is incredibly unethical, we should all boycott it.

  5. I got sick while in Colorado. With an infection in my throat that I have never felt any symptoms similar to. I had severe pain in my throat. I was concerned. But I knew it wasn't the usual bacteria or virus infection. Because I had never experienced those symptoms. im glad to be back home.

  6. These judges are dumb. It's the same thing as a murderer now they get the death sentence. They are killing thousands of our young Americans. Dam liberal judge let one of their kids overdose

  7. Look if your getting salmonella from chicken it's because it's cooked improperly. You must cook chicken all the way through. It's not beef you cannot have it medium rare. If it doesn't have a clear liquid coming out of it after cooking it isn't cooked all day he way. Rince your chicken too if you suspect it. Lastly if it smells bad when you open the package throw it out it's bad. Never leave your uncooked chicken in the fridge more that a couple of days either. Freeze it if you don't plan on cooking it soon after purchase. Salmonella can manifest in the fridge effecting other foods.

  9. I was tortured for 9 months in 2001 by salmonella that eventually turned into antibiotic resistant salmonella blood poisoning when I was 11 years old. It was awful. Fevers up to 107 degrees, vomiting, not being able to eat, I lost 30ish lbs and was down to 60lbs, diarrhea, night sweats, extreme exhaustion. My body was changed forever because of this disease. I’m lucky to be alive.

So wtf are algorithms for because we know that they have already run every disease thru them and thus saying that it's impossible or at least analytically not capable of lessening the amount of contamination biological or other in meats etc is highly illogical because it's the human variable that's the only "variable" that cannot ever be adjusted for because immune systems are each a universe of difference not that the antibiotics tbh are less effective 💁🏼‍♂️

  11. I LOVE these documentaries !!! Sadly, they are now majorly influenced by large corporations instead of the TRUTH. We'll NEVER get the kind of honest reporting we received up to the early 2000's. **This one is a rare exception
