Policies like the "Democratic Security" strategy have only strengthened the power of drug cartels, paramilitary groups, and the same corrupt actors who have kept Colombia in a state of constant warfare.
Now, for the first time in our history, we have a social-democratic president, Gustavo Petro, who has come to power with a strong commitment to break free from this history of violence and corruption. Petro is promoting policies that seek social justice, dignity for the poor, and a lasting peace. He faces enormous challenges—not only from local elites but also from external interference by actors like the U.S. and Israel, who continue to have vested interests in Colombia.
These powers have tried to discredit him through manipulated media and disinformation campaigns, labeling his administration as a threat to the country. However, the majority of Colombians stand with Petro because we know what we have endured: years of violence, forced displacement, and suffering that seems endless.
The world must understand that Colombia is at a crossroads. We need support for the peace process that Petro is pushing forward, not external meddling that perpetuates the cycle of death and poverty.
