Artem Hutorov was 15 years old when a convoy of Russian soldiers and minibuses pulled up to his school in the Ukrainian town of Kupiansk.
The soldiers were armed, the Ukrainian teenager recalls, and their faces were hidden under balaclavas.Â
In the above excerpt from the new FRONTLINE documentary “Children of Ukraine,” Artem describes what happened next.
“The Russians surrounded the buses, and we were taken out under the control of armed men,†Artem says.
In that moment, he adds, he feared “that we would be shot from all sides.â€

Is it time for a new military alliance?
The major ongoing armed conflicts in the world have shown us who are reliable allies. Unfortunately, the USA and some other countries have proven not to be safe and reliable allied friends. NATO has operated for 73.5 years, but the US has proven that it cannot be trusted. Unfortunately, some "European" countries have also proven the same lack of loyalty. The war in Ukraine and Israel are existential wars. If these wars are lost, civilizations will disappear, it is about the existence of nations. There are countries that would clearly fit into a new alliance together with most of today's NATO members: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan to name a few. Country with real democracy, freedom and development opportunities for the population. These countries should stand together in an armed alliance, to protect these values. Unfortunately, the UAS has proven that they can only protect their own values, not the needs of the world community.
