Chris, I have a home-built Win10 PC AMD 8-core machine with 32GB ram and 2 SSDs and 1 HDD in it. My machine has been working great, but MS deemed it no good as it won't fit their W11 requirements. I'd basically have to update all the guts.
I use the machine for music recording with Cakewalk and Reaper, a lot of Windows virtual synths. I also game a little on here with Fortnite and just a few other titles. Also do some light video editing (I actually have licenses for Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro for Mac, but 2 failed MBPs have soured me on getting any more Apple laptops or computers).
What would your recommendation be for using this machine after Win10 is no longer receiving support? I was thinking something like a dual-boot with Linux Mint (I know a decent amount about Linux, I just don't want to tinker with stuff when I have music work to do) and Windows? Something else, perhaps?
Thanks!
Moonlight rocks. Made a central system for this use under esxi windows 10.
do you have video how to install moonlight…
I have started playing around with moonlight and I have no idea how you manage to make it switch between the linux environment and the streamed windows environment so quickly, is there some trick or optimization that I'm missing?
After watching this video, I’m trying to access my mac(the host) via parsec on a linux(the client). The connection is very good and I am really impressed with parsec! One issue I’m having right now is that I can’t get parsec to emulate the command key which is such a big part of using the mac. You know, command-n for new file and such. Do you have any tips on this issue?
Hi Chris,
I would love to see a tutorial that shows how to setup this configuration.
Thanks!
I like the concept, years ago I partitioned my MBP and booted windows xp, and Ubuntu on another and it worked but the laptop back then was base and really slow. Windows worked awesome though. I am considering moving to Linux as a DD and want to be able to use Win/Mac so thanks for the Video!
I don't play much games, but if you run your game in fullscreen window mode there is not delay when you alt+tab to do other stuff. Works great with Diablo 3 running through lutris on Debian SID, so much for that superior advantage.. but I do agree that a in-house game streaming server is waaay cooler 😀
Does the game you play have friendly anti cheat that allow vm?
I have been using Mac,Windows,Linux for the past 5 years and parsec and moonlight seem intriguing!
Hi Chris, i remember you have created a video on how to setting wineprefix 1 or 2 year ago. But, i hope you can make updated one, especially in terms of what to install DLLs windows components, i sure a lot of newbie including me, are confused what to install and what's the best to make your windows apps works best.
Also, with the update of proton, mesa-driver, custom xanmod kernel etc, i believe those will help tremendously on how winapps gonna works. But on how to and which one to use can be confusing, so i hope you gonna make updated video on this. Thanks Chris !
Hey Chris any chance of you reviewing the new MacBook Pr’s from a coder perspective?
This video was very informative. Do you stream your different OS'es over wifi or via cat 5 cable?
Great Work Chris ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
Hey here's a good video idea. What about fully installing Linux Mint on a flashdrive? I dont mean the simple live version on a flashdrive, I mean treading it like an actual hard drive. I actually have failed to do this successfully myself. But you use one flashdrive for the "live" version of Mint, create the needed partitions on a second flash drive and then do the full install to that second flash drive. Maybe you can do it, I keep getting "no efi" error when I try to install that way but I know it's possible. I think it's an important thing to show as this is the BEST way for new users to try Linux. Live version cant connect to the internet, is missing features ect. But a full version that takes up zero hard drive space is a no brainer.
Oh my using final cut pro as well. Thats amazing.
Makes perfect sense as well.

Hey Chris! Can you make a video on customising IceWM.
Hey Chris have you tried Guacamole It does kinda the same thing but from a browser and it works with all platforms. You set it up on a VM or in the cloud, I love it.
What is that taskbar and can you use it with gnome?
Yeah but for me the problem is that I can not use it with linux, that moonlight works only from windows as a host, and if I want to share say linux to windows or linux to android – no luck for you.
Wait.. What! You blew my mind with how easy and seamless that was.
Hi there i have played csgo in windows with a intel igpu.. can i still get almost the same level of performance on linux?
and if so are there any tips you can give me?
