While out on a weekend garage sale shopping day. l came across a small repair shop ran out of a garage that was closing up shop. the owner was removing tools from this box and putting them on a tarp for sale. l asked if the box was for sale and he said yes for $100. l paid the man and picked it up the next day, now it is time to return it to its original glory,

Hi I just git new locks and all my bottom sliders replaced under warranty with snap on. No questions.
It’s like putting lipstick on a pig! And that’s the furthest thing from a correct restoration! To even call it that to create content
Why did cut sooooo many corners? You should’ve replaced the drawer slides, stripped it down to bare metal, body worked the dents, primed it & then repainted it properly, wet sanded it etc. You could’ve turned a huge profit on that box had you done it right and not half assed it.
I wish I could find something like this. The problem is I'm in New Jersey and people try to sell that for 500 bucks
Thanks for showing me how to get the drawers out. I have a old Snap on top box I'd like to fix up
Hi Mustie, your snap on tool box locks are extremely easy to fix, any key that goes in the slot you disassemble the lock, put the key in , take it to the grinding wheel even out the pins, there you have them set, at my 72 years of age, been there done that, n many tool boxes locks, you don't need a locksmith, just take a look and you will see what need to be done, GUARANTEE, the difference in between you and. I is that I am retired and you still sharing with us your enjoyable vidios, from the endless summer paradise Puerto Rico Jesus Torres.
Bought that with Its matching top box in 1976. Only difference mine had chrome handles. My second year of wrench turning on Heavy Duty Diesel Trucks. Paid $1100.00 for the bottom and 500.00 for the top. Those prices are long gone. Great Box
Snap-on has lifetime warranty on draw slides ???
For future reference to remove the drawers use a hacksaw blade
Nice restoration! I have the same Snap-on taco cart. It's my daily use toolbox as an airline aircraft tech. I tow it between hangars, fits under wings, and some fuselages. I always get compliments on the box, but I keep it very clean. About 10 years ago, my local Snap-On dealer was actually giving me a $2000 credit for the box, but only if I bought a new one. This one will take me to retirement, I'll then pass it on to a young deserving tech.
sliders arnt expensive…I mean it wont break the bank.
I worked with an older guy that had that box i always thought it was cool nice find.
Got one ( taco wagon)
Red Farmall tractor paint from tractor supply is a close match for Snapon and is easy to apply as it has the primer in the paint as well
Awesome job!
I paid 500 for mine it has a hitch on the handle end for dragging to aircraft they were called taco wagons the snap on man can get keys for it mine still works good still rolls full of tools😊
Making peoplemthink snap on will homor warranties for anyone other than the original purchaser is a huge disservice…
None of snap on warranties on any tool they produce is transferable. So if you buy second hand snap on tools, there is no lifetime warranty. Keep that in mind when people are trying to charge insane prices for second hand snap on…craftsman, husky, icon, doyle, pittsburgh, gear wrench, tekton…all have no receipt required warranties on their tools…
This video took me back 45 yrs ago to when I was in a precision sheet metal class and the final project was a 5 drawer tool box that we had to make completely from scratch, even the drawer slides and those had everyone pulling their hair out. Half of the class didn't finish their boxes because of them. I managed to get mine to where you can get all the drawers to open and close fairly easy and as soon as that class ended I took that damn box out to the shooting range and I turned it into Swiss cheese !
I had that box biggest box they had at the time
That is inexcusable for Snap On not to have those drawer slides. For as much as they charge, they better damn well have the parts available. I guess it truly shows the value of their lifetime warranty. Nice job on the restoration.
this is the coolest video ive ever seen
I like the box I would probably put a wood top on it
Omg it turned out great Darren looks like my box I paid 5K for on the truck great job
Nice find, and nice restoration. I like the old toolboxes much better than the new ones. I have a small Snap On set and a larger Mac set. I've left them as "patina" pieces, however. Just cleaned them, lubed the drawers, and put them to use. Incidentally, I also have a Kennedy set, which used to be all the rage with machinists. Inferior, in my opinion. The drawers aren't nearly as smooth.
Good job, the box looks good.
You could have used a worm hacksaw blade, after fitting it with a grinder, & put a bend on it to pull the door slides out. Try calling Snap On for free warrantied drawer rails. You might find bearinged rails?
Nice, wouldn’t mind having one of those. It would work well for what I do.
If you want to take it up a notch restore the casters or replace them with new heavy duty ones. Also if you buy the heavy duty thick drawer liners and use a light adhesive just on the corners so they don’t get all messed up you might like them a little more .
I own the identical box! And I did purchase this box in 1978!
Awesomeness
It looks amazing. What a unique box. Note the holder on the inside door for all the paperwork. Would make a great kitchen island with a butcher block top.
Carpet knife and a t square to cut the rug would probably work best
No vise……put a nice wood or stainless steel top on it.
Here in the south we call them taco boxes…still very sought-after…usually 1200-1500 bucks
Mustie one o kind person who can make video of restoring toolbox interesting 😊
I used a hacksaw blade
Hey man, just to let you know those tracks are warrantable still through Snapon
You can call snap on and see if they have replacement parts in hand. I have a top chest from the 70s and they had everything available except the drawers themselves.
I bought that airport box new in 1974 when I started turning wrenches at a Southern California Porsche Shop for $2,400. I recently traded the box empty for a 2010 3.0 Mercedes Benz engine. I would have never got rid of the box but because it has doors on one side, then drawers on two other sides it wasn’t workable for me in a normal home type garage. I now have seven bottom & top boxes full of tools. 😅
I really love your videos sir.
Hacksaw blade works to get those drawers out. Slides all the way in.
The metal strip in a hanging file folder works great taking the drawers out and doesn’t screw up your feeler gauge. And yes I learned it on YouTube! lol I also bought a roll of spring steel from McMaster Carr to replace those stops.
The dreaded folding credit card knife
nice
I restored mine and put a 3-4†finished poly plywood top with half routered down 1/4†and used a piece of 1/4†cold rolled steel plate there under the vise. I can literally beat the heck out of it and no damage whatsoever. That is a sweet find and you did a bang up job of bringing it back! My current project is a modified 5 drawer cart from harbor freight adding two additional 5 drawer pods AND a side box totaling a 21 drawer rolling box! Good luck with yours, I’m sure you’ll get good use out of it!
