In this video I bring you along the process of diagnosing a customer complaint of surging and poor running on a Buick 3.8. In our shop I always give the full hour of time set aside to duplicate the customers complaint but at the end of my time if I can’t get the car to act up I move on. I am curious to know what you do in your shop. What’s you go to method?

  1. AllI know is that traffic would be heaven here as since the hurricane 10 months ago has made it seem like everyone from around the country seems to be OVERUSING THE ROAD AROUND THESE PARTS.

  2. Eric, I'd love to see you in a Crimson Tide hat. I'd love to send you one to remind you of how easy we have it in the South… 🙂 Let me know and I'll throw one in the mail to the PRNY

  3. Also, did I miss it, or was their no talk or mention of the classic Bosch factory scan tool? Eric, how are you going to use a beauty like that without an introduction? lol.

  4. A classic SMA visual inspection could've saved ya 40 minutes, aye? That or the customer could actually tell his mechanic that they "installed" a non factory catalytic converter on the vehicle and that's when the weird troubles began lol.

  5. I was a fleet mechanic for decades, every now and then a driver would come in with a complaint & I would check it out, road test etc. & find nothing. Most drivers didn’t like to hear that. I would have 10 other vehicles waiting for repair, move on & forget it.

  6. Had a wagon that was a mystery. My mechanic said he couldn't find the issue I described. I asked him to keep it and take it home and to work for a week. On day 7 he felt the issue and fixed it. I moved, I sure as he'll miss him. 😢
