Its not Privacy, Security, OR Stability.

Linux is none of the things people say, but it is still my favorite for a variety of other reasons and I don’t see that changing anytime soon .

  1. I have used linux since 2007 – never had any issues – updates can be ignored without any problems
    – viruses? there don't appear to be many of them and antivirus software although a thing is not needed
    – linux has local accounts mostly
    – linux can now open all MS Office documents
    – software support is now excellent and mostly free.
I have some windows PC's for reasons but they are always a pain.

  2. I've been using Windows since Windows 95 and I've never experienced anything like this. They wanted to make it "their last operating system," but the promises were not kept. Did users get any benefit?
Windows 11 looks great, but Microsoft ruined it with their AI and telemetry policies. Windows 10 was also a great operating system, but again, Microsoft ruined it. That's why I switched to Linux now.

  3. I bought a Raspberry Pi 5 and I set it up as a desktop system. I just wanted to try out Linux. I now use it as my main computer. It's faster than my old Windows laptop.

  4. Hi Chris, I'm a newbie exploring Linux before choosing a distro to use as my main OS for my software career. I noticed you’re running Windows in a VM to switch between Linux and Windows. That seems really useful, sometimes I’ll still need Microsoft Office, so using a VM might be a good option for me too. Could you share which VM you’re using?

  5. Linux is more ubiquitous than most people realize. When we look at desktop Linux we see a small "market share" but take into account server Linux and that share is huge. I got into RHEL because I had to but that's what turned me on to it is working in the cli environment.

Still use Windows but have a number of Debian / Fedora / Arch distros in VirtualBox.

  6. Linux forces Microsoft and Apple to continually innovate and add value because ultimately they know users have an escape hatch from their ecosystems. Imagine how bad Windows would be without Linux alternatives.

  7. Great Vid Chris, to echo your thoughts, windows has and will always will support the biggest range of x86/64 hardware/drivers and Desktop Applications, Linux will require patience and knowledge/hacking to get the best out of it regarding this. Linux in the enterprise world excels because of its strong vendor support and ecosystem etc which can be tailored specificially for it, Intel, AMD, HP, IBM, Redhat, RHEL (akin to sun microsystems with solaris back in the day and apple with its Proprietry Hardware).

  8. I use to be good with Dos, then windows came in, I wished I would have gotten into linux/Ubuntu back in the day, I miss it, back in the 90's wile stationed in Albany, GA I had a BBS that I ran, it was great, got to know others had one also, that's why I like linux, it reminds me of Dos. I think they should teach linux in school as a course that anyone can take.

  9. I used Linux Mint for a while, then gave it up a few years ago and went back to Windows. Now because Windows 10 support is coming to an end I'm going to give Arch Linux a go. I've heard a lot of good things about Arch, including that it's relatively easy to install because of the Wiki and new installation methods, it has a "rolling release model" which means you can install the latest software, and it doesn't send any telemetry (with the exception of certain third-party software). I expect I'll have to keep on top of the OS to make sure it's running properly, but I'm up for that. I really like the idea of configuring an OS exactly how I want and just add only the stuff to it that I need.

  10. I agree with the Microsoft sucks part but your ego and arrogance is worse than Gates. I've never met a person in my life that had to rebuild windows to "get work" done and my first comp was a 386. Use what you want and what works for you. You are not some hermit in a long lost cave with secret knowledge to dole out. Good lord get over yourself.

  11. In 2025 nobody uses a spyware os 😅😅😅😅😅 . Thats why I have switched to linux . I hate dual booting. I use windows 11 for my production softwares.

  12. True, PewDiePie's Video is just better. 🙂

You need to show much more vs. just telling… He had it easy with his discovery energy and the love for his customization as video-themes, but there might be other equally good emotional angles.

  13. I used to like Linux at the time of slackware and gentoo. Nowadays there is so much crazy stuff they want to force people to use on Linux like Wayland, different forms of Gtk, package systems that make no sense… I feel almost like I am forced to upgrade to trendy software in similar ways to the Mac/Windows worlds. So Linux lost some of its original allure, in my opinion.

  14. I do not remember the last time Linux crashed on me. I run 99 plus percent of my Windows games on Linux. About the only games I cannot get a Windows game running on Linux are dx12 only games. dx11 and back run fine on Linux.

  15. I go for the fun of doing things by myself, do thing in the console very efficiently, have fun, Also because is faster than windows. And I hate microsoft bullshit too.

  16. Microsoft forced me to use edge. Every time I tried to set chrome to default it would change it to edge automatically when it was launched. Since then I've been using edge. I'll be moving to brave now or later
