Dexter cattle are usually black, but they can also be red and dun colors! Join me as I walk through our Dexter herd, showing new calves and the state of spring pasture grazing. I explain a problem we had with a new Mom and her calf bonding and how we helped them, and go over the basic genetics that created a red line of Dexters within our herd.

Red Dexters are our favorite!! ðŸ™ðŸ»ðŸ™ðŸ» we have a few and want more
Went back to one of your old videos, nice quality content..keep them coming
Nice ðŸ‘
I love that you name all your animals!
Well I was hoping to catch one of your one-liners. It was a good video but, I really enjoyed the way you do your videos now.
Awesome!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video bye you give an explanation about the different breeds.
Your herd so pretty love watching them
Thank you, for taking the time to share what you know.
Great video Mr. Pete!
When you stop learning you start dying!
The chances of having a black cow if both parents have recessive genes is 3:4, not 2:3. You can look up Punnett square and check the diagram for a monohybrid cross. (The dun mutation is a separate recessive gene.)
The advice from one climate change “expertâ€, I saw recently, was too stop frequent flying, stop driving cars and to stop eating beef immediately to avoid a global catastrophe in 2030. Is that even possible?
Lovely video. We recently purchased our first Dexter heifer, who is dun. She is bred to a red bull. I'm trying to figure out what color baby will be…..😂. We love you guys! You were one of our Dexter inspirations!
I’ve been looking for some dexter calves around here (Indiana Illinois line ) haven’t found any yet I breed goats and pigs and usually buy bottle calves or young calves and feed to butcher I would love to try some dexter to try some of that yellow fat meat
You almost got tongue twisted there Pete with the "G's"
ðŸ”ðŸ”ðŸ”ðŸ‘😇⚡ï¸
Pete, I am glad you are a student because that makes you a great teacher. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and presenting the information in an easy to understand manner. Your enthusiasm is heart-warming.
Hi: I'm Al Larson, age 95, living in Lombard, Il. I lived on a farm in So. Dak. till I was 18. I heard you you talk about pink eye in one of your videos. I thought you may be interested in this.– We had a little problem with pink eye in our cattle. We cured it with boric acid powder. Dip a straw in the powder, 1/2 to 3/4 Inches in the straw. You need a cattle squeezer. Get up close to the eye & go poof onto her eye. I think we repeated this about every 3 days , & 3 or 4 times. It worked great for us.If you like this, mention it in one of your videos, & I'll see it. Yours Al
You come up with the cutest names for your animals. Your cows look so happy and relaxed thanks for another fantastic video
I’m a life long student and Pete is my professor, thank you Pete for teaching me all about Dexter’s
Great video I’m always learning something new from you!
ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘🇺🇸🇺🇸
Would you consider doing a video on helping the a green horn like myself understand some terms on Dexter? (Explain) I was looking on the American Dexter association website. Reading up on all the information on dexters. When I looked up dexters for sale part of the site. I came across terms I am not familiar with or understand. For example, Chondrodysplasia – Non Carrier PHA status – Non Carrier and many other terms. What should we know about dexters before we buy a dexter? Thanks
Nice grain bin in the background. Yours?
At the beginning when you were talking about the calf and how the Mom didn't accept it I thought oh no another cow heading for the butcher. So glad they both bonded and things worked out. Thanks for the generic cattle color lesson.
Great video, Pete! Love the calves!
Hello! Maybe in the next video you may present how you remove the calfs horns
Actually I like the Red or Dun. Any of them are nice.
<3 your Dexter videos, and thank you for the lesson on genetics! I can't wait to get my own Dexters for milking in the near future. Keep safe and healthy…
thanks for the video, it kind of fell into what and i thought about color coats on the diffrent animals, didnt know bout genetics or how they work, all i know is if i breed male [a ] to female [ b ] i would get a broken coat[ spots ] on piglets, or a tri color coat, the calves we always bought from other farms, thank you for the video, be strong, be safe, and be blessed
