In this video I am working on a 2014 Subaru Outback 2.5 that came in with the all to common rotted rear exhaust flange. You can fix it a few ways and one of those ways is just to chopped out the flange and replace it with a sleeve pipe as I show in this video. – Enjoy!

  1. Nice! Had this happen on an impreza near Syracuse during the Winter. It sounded like a stereotypical buddhist kung fu gong from the movies because the muffler was banging against the midpipe.
I wanted to change the muffler anyway, so I got the cheapest SS Borla, and I clamped a split flange onto the midpipe.
Of course three years later the split flange is rusting like crazy…

  2. I'm not an exhaust guy, but need to do this on my Subaru asap.
Don't have access to a welder, so would clamps be ok to use?
And if so, should I use some sort of sealant on the connecting areas to prevent leaks? What type of sealant(s) would be acceptable?

  3. Great video as usual. I've got the same problem, but is another option to separate the flanges, grind them flat, and install a new gasket and fasteners?

  4. Labor Day weekend here in SoCal…100 degrees and both wife and I have bad colds. So…spending a few hours watching your vids. I drive a Charger HellCat and she a Grand Cherokee. Had trucks most of my life and thinking about re-entering the truck world. I've been a RAM guy forever but am now leaning Toyota because my buds all drive them and have mucho fewer issues with the Tundra than the others. What are your thoughts on the new motor and the Tundra in general? How you can keep your hands off that hot wife of yours I'll never know…but I have one too and am in the same dilemma. Wish you were in SoCal…you'd be my mechanic. Let me know which truck you like…RAM 2500 with the 6.4 or the new Tundra….thanks brother.

  5. I did the exact same job with hose clamps and the exhaust glue stuff in October. Found the 2 1/8 id sleeve slipped right on and clamped

  6. I know next to nothing about car repair but I had a question. Why would you not just replace the exhaust gasket? Is it because of the corrosion. Sorry if the answer is obvious.
