An investigation by FRONTLINE and ProPublica into how the BP Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf of Mexico was preceded by countless safety violations. Could the spill have been prevented? (Aired 2010)

Long before the Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf, BP was widely viewed as a company that valued deal-making and savvy marketing over safety, a “serial environmental criminal†that left behind a long trail of problems — deadly accidents, disastrous spills, countless safety violations — which many now believe should have triggered action by federal regulators.
Each time, BP acknowledged the wider flaws in its culture and promised to do better. But from the refineries to the oil fields to the Gulf of Mexico, BP workers understood that profits came first.

18:40 the chief creep has to actually read how saddened they are at the loss of life… really?!?
These are the same companies that want to be put in charge of nuclear energy…
And now the Orange turd destroyed the EPA Department so he can make money under the table with companies like this.
26:47 😢 EVERYBODY NEEDS TO BOYCOTT BP😢
This is not a Deepwater Horizon documentary. It’s a BP documentary. There’s about 8 minutes of Deepwater horizon coverage here, so if that’s what you’re looking for, go elsewhere.
This is the kind of management nonsense guys like me get laughed at (by management) for. You hired me to do a job… LISTEN TO ME. Good God will have a place for these people who live a lie and make it an impossible chore for professionals to do their job right and truthfully.
“That government is best which governs least†was said before giant multinational corporations rose to prominence. Now it just sounds foolish.
More full of ish
BP
OR Boeing
This is some of PBS best work with this investigation and reporting. PBS reporting and investigations is second to no-one when they're not reporting on politics.
I would have no issues with 100% government funding if PBS stayed out of reporting on politics.
And today companies continue to value profits over people. Whether it’s BP, Boeing, banks, food companies…it never changes.
6:25 150 million 😂
I sent in plans for a log cutter head with claw n a slip on coupler also the claw i designed was airpowered not oil or mine was modified to run on air i still have my original copyrighted plans sealed to this day the cutter blade i changed from a timber cutting blade to a diamond cutting blade
30:22. BP screws up, a screw up that didn't need to happen had they just done the maintenance they were supposed to do and because of their major screw up the consumers are the ones that pay for it "literally" by increasing the gas prices. All of these major corporations do this BS. Same song different story. Shyt burns🔥 me up.
Not shocked. Happens with most top heavy orgs. Used to work for AEP. Our slogan was "Can't spell CHEAP without AEP".
If you ask most of these people, what they think we should do. they would say, stop drilling, stop refining and run our economy on unicorn, farts and bixby dust.😅
If I were a government official, I would immediately subpoena anyone who signs an NDA with BP. You might be able to legal gag someone from talking to the media, but you cannot prevent them from testifying in court or to congress, especially if they are investigating possible wrong doing.
Just Like I just said money talk fuck what you have to say……..
they knew that they are just money hungry ,.thats what is fuckn this world up,….
All that money they don't give a fuck about the people ,give them some money and they will shut the hell up and they will,.Damn Shame,……….
41:36 I found the face SHy Kong uses in his vids lol
I live on the Mississippi Louisiana state line, we were extremely effected by Deepwater Horizon disaster, and its always gonna be F*ck BP!!
This what happens when billionaires don't get regulated properly for safe business operations
Give bp the boot from American oil permanently. Let the American companies have the oil.
bp is a perfect example of the more money you have, the more you become out of touch with humanity and reality . I have not purchased a single gallon of bp fuel since April 2010. And I never will again.
Carol Browner, the White House energy adviser should be held accountable for her conduct. Rewriting history to make your politics fit the narrative is the most despicable of political gamesmanship. Forget the dead people and look at all the oil profit to be had. Treasonous people are everywhere in our government. Every party and every administration and every branch of government is infected with these people.
BP sucks.
As a retired welder over thirty five years I couldn't count the times how many dangerous situations I was put in and the owners or boss would say we need this now but take your time , they'd stay right on your azz , this nonsense must stop , these CEO get to go home every night to there family , but we skilled labors don't know if we were going home or not sometimes ….
Our government is great at keeping passing the buck not its US citizens . All Americans should get a share of oil proceeds.
They're going to run everything to failure. Sorta like orange face, mess crop .
I wish somebody would come up with a way to force corporations to abide by worker safety legislation, and maybe even pay employees a living wage. But being an American, the schooling available to me was extraordinarily poor, and I know almost nothing other than the scientific fact that Jesus is Lord, that God hates everyone that doesn't look and act like me, and that unions are hotbeds of Satanist activity.
I’m not surprised that no one was ever held accountable or prosecuted. I live in Paradise California, on 11-8-2018 my hometown burned to the ground. It was caused by our utility company. There 14,000 homes and businesses destroyed. 86 people were killed in the fire. No one from the utility company were ever held accountable.
Essentially Browne made a truck load of dept, thinking he got assets for a steal by buying old infrastructure and just assume he can run those assets into full production and make a ton of money. I wonder where they got the money to pay for damages and lives lost. If it was from their own coffers then Browne must have been extremely stupid to keep on making such risky mistakes. Im left wondering if some insurance was footing the bill for all of these things happening. If so then Browne must be one of the most gutless businessman in the oil industry. Plain and simple cruel, and my feeling its the latter.
Always at the cost of lazy ppl
Greed is still more valuable than life or polluting the seas. Independent regulators could have caught most of the big ones. But corp profits out weight human safety. Nobody needs a parent looking over their shoulders; and no parent would ever have to if the child had an ounce of self respect!
BP needs a BILLION dollar fine and if they don't pay the fine within a year or they try to retaliate then all BP assets in the US should be naturalized.
Man… I can't wait till corporations grow larger than world governments and basically take over the role that governments play now 😢
I remember when this happened you could see it from the shore
40 minute documentary about the deep water horizon incident yet only 10 minutes if that were spent actually talking about it. Waste of time like tf
Crazy to think companies like that. Don't care about their employees lives.
According to this movie they were real slow. To react to the danger. Then they didn't even acknowledge it. As the threat it was that's crazy. When ppl are money crazy. They don't care about human life. This company was so negligent. That was criminal for real.
Just started this movie. If this was a true representation. Of what happened that day. With them seeing a problem. Taking it as a joke like that. That was beyond crazy that company. Should have been shut down completely. For their negligence when it came to. Ppls life these companies the way it shows them. Laughing having more important stuff to do. Was more them crazy. He said it was a false reading. This movie makes it look as if. They was clueless to the danger before them. Them standing that close to the pipes. Was crazy to see them doing. Then it was what do I do wow. How the rest of them not know. About the danger that was happening. They were still clueless to it. Man this movie is intense knowing. It is a true story is devastating. Thinking about the men. That was there makes me keep thinking. About the guy saying it was. A false reading that killed ppl. That day a false reading the way. They kept standing around not abandoning. That site was even more crazy. No warning to all them. That was there who didn't know of the danger. Then you have a real a hole. Yelling at someone telling them. They don't know what it was. That was happening sickening for real wow.
Goodness gracious. These very dumb people who control our energy policies know nothing more than kicking the can down the road.. We need rock solid balls in our government. Not guys who wear silk socks. Damnit to hello. Men are now a dying breed
PBS is so bad with their inquiries, hard to take them seriously
