The Great Cattle Caper

Plan the work, then work the plan! We have to move a lot of cattle today, and we’ll see how that goes…

-We do not offer farm tours or accept visitors
-We do not sell from the farm

  1. Your so lucky to have so many tractors to work with. Almost one for every task. Most small farmers only have one or maybe two.
When had my small part time farm up in Maine I used a CK 5 Jeep.
That was my tractor/skidder/errand truck etc.

  2. We have pasture on both sides of the road that we live on. Once in a while , cows and or bulls, will travel under the bridge and end up on the other side. All the pushing and shoving , ( pecking order) always makes me cringe. Of the bulls get to each other, that fighting is loud and upsetting.
Also when we sort cows, I never do it without having a cane in my hands. It makes your arm reach a lot wider, and just a poke on the behind gets them moving in the right direction. And gives me a farther distance from those back legs, that can kick with lightening speed. Hillary is a really good helper!

  3. Enjoyed this one very much. I like the way you two work together to move your animals, having an understanding of which way to move to accomplish where you want them. It is nice to listen to you talk to them.
My husband hasn't a clue even with a cat. He always moves the wrong way when we need to capture one to medicate or crate for the vet. Just not his thing. But what can you say, it is only for a cat. But believe me a tame house cat can become spooked too and then it is a problem. Keep up the good work.
    Take Care.

  4. There's an old saying, "Plan your work and work your plan." I think it applies here. LOL I remember doing this with Uncle Paul. Whose worse, cows or pigs?

  5. lot of work but at least you don't have idiot bosses telling you how to do your job except the crazy liberals who think we should just all be vegetarians and eat bugs

  6. After watching Pete and Hilarie rebuild their family Farm Home in 1990, anything he builds or rebuilds is a special treat to watch. IMPRESSIVE!!!! Is what he did to that falling down roached out house. It gives us a GOOD feeling that Pete represents small family farmers in New England. I came from one in Southern Vermont.

  7. Hey Pete! Thanks for the videos, they have good information for us! We are on the arid plains of Colorado where the sun shines and no rain falls on our dexters!
One of our questions is, do you trim your cows hooves?

  8. You and Hillary have that down pat so there is no real problem it’s just a lot of running around back-and-forth which is a little annoying but on a small farm that’s expected it’s about the way I would’ve done it so you get your steps in for the day the cardio is good

  9. Pete/Hillary,
It’s great to watch your videos, my son who is in his 3rd year of residency In Pa, wants to eventually end up with a small farm like yours. Thanks for what you do!
