In this video I am going over Windows Programs on Linux using Wine, what it does, and how you can use almost any Windows program on Linux.

How to Run Windows Programs on Linux?
1. Run a Virtual box inside Linux that is running the full version of Windows
2. Run WINE

What is it?
-WINE is a compatibility layer and stands for WINE IN IS NOT AN EMULATOR!
-It translates Windows System Calls to a POSIX-compliant system call that Linux can read

Why use it?
-Its extremely lightweight and often times programs will run just as well, if not better because of the low overhead.

How to use it?
-Creating its running environment… called a Wine Bottle.
$ WINEARCH=win32 or win64 WINEPREFIX=PATH wine programname
-Customizing the environment… using WineTricks or winecfg
$ WINEPREFIX=PATH winetricks
*Note: Can’t undo customizations and packages require installation in a certain order
-Common Best Practices
1. Using independent bottles for each program
2. Killing all Wine Processes
3. Only use trusted sources… Windows Viruses also run in Wine
4. NEVER use Wine as ROOT or launch via sudo command!
-Games and what works great
1. DXVK translates games in real-time to from DirectX to Vulkan Currently DX11 and DX10. DX9 support being added this year.
2. DX9 and older games can sometimes struggle because they aren’t translated fast enough, which leads to poor performance.
3. Make sure to follow my Guide on the DXVK and ESYNC here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTky9UoYVsk&t=305s
4. Check Compatibility: https://appdb.winehq.org/

Kill Wine Processes – wineserver -k
Force Kill Wine Process – wineserver -k9 .

  1. New mem Henry here. Would it pe possible for you to publish on this site a copy of all the commands i can print for windows in Linus. It is cumbersome to keep start/stopping the video and make a pencil/paper copy. And some tines you put up another screen i don't know how you generated. Sorry to bother you. But i am by no means Mr Savy But I am not to old to learn more at 71 yrs old. Also my PC is an old Dell Latitude. I added a 500 mb thumbdrive hard drive.I am making it my Super PC Laptop. So i can impress my Geritol Buddies.

  2. Windows Programs on Wine. This is something Bill Gates and Linus Torvalds Dont KNOW.
Wine is Subset Windows. Its the Part of Windows that Your God has Reverse Engineered OR the Parts/Libraries He's Written Himself.
YOUR SONTARON/MIN-ONES GOD IS FAR FAR MORE INTELLIGENT THAN YOU.
THE PROGRAMS HE WRITES (HIS OWN) -HE MAKES SURE TO "ONLY" USE THE WINDOWS API'S THAT HE HIMSELF KNOW HOW THEY WORK. THATS WHAT Wine is.
The 20 Good Games – We've Got are the Ones Your GOD has Written Himself.
All You are is a P1G. SASH – La Pimavera De La Monde. by giving you step-by-step instructions you've built 100 storey Sky Scrappers.
Those Borg/Avatars are also like That. He's been Teaching them with Step-by-Step Instructions.
Their DirectX 12 Games – We Haven't reverse Engineered. We Need to Reverse The Pentium 4 Silicone to Do that. Thats EXPENSIVE. Reverse Engineering Wine is Cheaper.

  3. I would appreciate a video on how to completely purge all remnants of all possible wine installs, including flathuib, system repo, and wineHQ repo, and then start over with a fresh install from just the wineHQ repo. because my shit is borked, it won't run jack, and now I've got to purge it all and start over. It''ll start a bottle no problem. It'll run winetricks. But it won't run winecfg nor any other windows executable at all. It just gives the ole "0070:err:ole:start_rpcss Failed to open RpcSs service" which from what I can tell is just a complete dead end you gotta start all over thing.

  4. I'm trying to run a simple exe compiled script from a au3 i created within windows and want to run it on a debian
raspberry pi. So far i have not been able to run it. I'm beginning to think its not possible.

  5. When my man said he installed FFXI on Ubuntu… he had me locked in. That game has been a portion of my life since I was 13… anyways I wanted Cisco eReader on my Ubuntu device… and I now have Cisco eReader on my Ubuntu device.

    Thanks Chris!

  6. WIne is so tough. I tried to install wine 32 bit. There is no option. WIne is always 64 bit version. If I want I need to make a bottle for 32 bit. It comes with lots of error. My computer don't have nvidia graphics card, all the tutorials assume computers have nvidia graphics card. so it is so painful to run wine. Sometimes, it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Now, I cannot install anything through winetricks. It shows error. I am tired of trying wine.
